Wine Tasting Etiquette

Posted : 21-Apr-2015

If you are a large group, please call us at Adina Vineyard in the Hunter Valley to book for a wine tasting on 02 4930 7473

Now for some helpful tips before you start your wine tasting

  • Don't taste on an empty stomach
  • Take notes, give each wine a score out of 10
  • Base this score on what is important to you, for example, the taste (of course) and the smell
  • Try something new
  • Hold your glass by the stem
  • If you are the driver you can still savour the flavour, but you will need to spit
  • Pace yourself
  • Sip water between tastings to cleanse your palate
  • Use water to also cleanse your glass

Now let us begin

  • Look at the colour: is it watery or dark, cloudy or clear
  • Swirl: the more droplets that cling to the side of the glass the higher the alcohol content
  • Now sniff: take in the aroma
  • Sip: don't gulp, let it roll around in your mouth

Don't get carried away and remember the kids.
